These wheels typically use cubic boron nitride (CBN), which is extremely hard, or diamond, which is an extremely hard substance. Diamond plated wheels hold their form longer and bond more strongly. This bond consists of metal plating (preferably nickel) which binds the grain to the body. Its high strength allows the bonding layers to be thin and a greater proportion of the grain to protrude. Electroplated bond grinding tools are used for the polishing process.
